Resources

An archive of free informational resources related to my various research projects.

My Purpose: As a justice-focused public sociologist, a key element of my practice is to share research publicly and across multiple media platforms so that knowledge doesn't just stay locked up in the "ivory tower" of universities.

My Commitment: As a publicly funded scholar through the NIH and the NSF, I have received fellowship funding for my graduate studies from organizations that are made possible to some degree through federal tax dollars. Therefore, it is my commitment to make my research accessible to as many people as possible.

Why Did I Make this Resource?

🎓  For Current and Future Graduate Students

CV: Demystified (Coming Soon)

Why am I making this resource? Before coming to grad school, I would often look at other student and faculty's Curriculum Vitae (or CV) and wonder in awe and overwhelm at how they were able to get this grant or bag that one job position. Part of the hidden curriculum is that it is expected that students "just know" how to get these opportunities. When you look at someone CV as a final, all-encompassing document, it can be easy to start self-comparing and assuming that these accomplishments involved smooth transitions from one win to the next. This couldn't be further from the truth.

In CV: Demystified, I will open myself up to vulnerability and share my journey through graduate school, and point out tidbits of information about my CV to reveal the ways I encountered certain opportunities in graduate school.

Although I am an early career scholar and still have a lot of work to do, I have been previously successful in obtaining fellowships, grants, and research opportunities. I hope that by providing a behind-the-scenes look at my journey, I can offer some transparency about how one may navigate graduate school.

If you are considering graduate school (specifically, a social science doctoral program), please email me at erykahb@umich.edu.

✂️  News Clippings

As part of my practice, I set email alerts for specific topics related to my research and receive a curated list of articles from local Detroit news platforms.
